Syncope Awareness Day - *Meeting Cancelled*
Saturday June 19th, 2010 - University of Michigan Cardiovascular Center, Ann Arbor, Michigan
The Syncope Awareness Day is a program designed for sufferers of syncope, their families and the medical professional to obtain more knowledge about syncope conditions. For the patient; reducing fears and stigma, for the medical professional; advancing understanding and awareness of syncope.
Objectives
Syncope is a condition that affects many patients and is becoming a more prevalent clinical problem encountered in daily practice. Streamlining the work-up of a syncopal patient by utilizing a multidisciplinary approach assists in an accurate diagnosis. Rapidly evolving advances are occurring in basic and clinical research concerning syncope, in our understanding of the mechanisms, in new technology for diagnosis and treatment, and in improved management strategies. Consideration must also be given to the legal ramifications the diagnosis carries. The goal of this course is to present and discuss these recent advances in the management of syncope, focusing on practical implications and applications in daily practice.
By attending this course participants will:
• Learn more about the diagnosis of syncope
• Better understanding of the differential diagnosis of syncope from a neurological standpoint and autonomic dysfuntion
• Learn about other medication options to better manage patients with syncope
• Learn the law regarding syncope and driving restrictions
